After a little deliberation, I have decided to change my topic to CONFECTIONARY. This is due to me realising that this topic has a lot more potential in producing results of intrigue. Also, I found that there were quite a few people who had decided to chose the topic of trainers.

Photoshop Workshop.

Today we had a photoshop induction and learnt how to do a few processes....

Desaturating an image and masking off one area to show colour.

Using tints.

Overlaying tints in shapes.

Overlaying coloured tints on an unsaturated image.

Creating a pattern.

Formatting a pattern.

'What if' Outcome ....so far!

This is a mock of what our posters would look like pasted up onto the building, as due to a lack of funding we were not able to physically achieve this.

Mock Poster Designs.

Here are a few designs I came up with based on the shapes seen in the symbol for change; circle, triangle and rectangle.

'What if' Poster Design Ideas.

We decided to use posters to visually enhance the buildings aesthetics, as this was frequently mentioned in he feedback we received. As a group we decided to keep our posters simple, so chose to use only a circle, triangle and rectangle in our designs. Here are some of our design ideas: 

In addition to this, we wanted to produce flyers which would contain our chosen pattern design but also offer the opportunity for us to explain to the public what the project was about. Therefore, we took into consideration how these could be distributed; attaching them to the boards near the posters was an idea.

Primary Research Collection.

We were going to base our research on Boar Street as a result of the secondary research we had carried out; mainly due to high density of the empty shops in this area. However, when we got to Boar Street we found that this area was not as 'run down' as we had expected ...so we walked a little further and came across 'The Calls'. This area is perfect for our project as there are many empty shops and it is a widely used street.

We managed to get a shot of the inside of this building......

We stood around gathering research between 12.15 and 12.45 collecting various pieces of data.

We put up our posters on the building for people to fill in.

In the time that we were there, we found:

A table recording how many people passed by the area on a Tuesday lunch time,

Occupied buildings – 13

Unoccupied buildings – 9

Between 12:40 and 12:50 – 48 cars drove past.

All available roadside parking was limited and expensive, one way street.


One comment we received upon talking to the public was quite interesting.....

“Preserve the building for the future, if a school or something else is needed then the structure is already there. Its horrible to look at but if it was refurbished it would be better.”
